Dentists offer Cash for Candy


Lake County dentists offer cash for candy to help
United Way of Lake County and the Troops

 

Participating dental offices in Lake County are offering $1 for every pound of Halloween candy collected from November 5 through November 9 - up to $5. 

The dentist will then make a monetary donation to United Way of Lake County and the candy they collect will be sent to the troops. By donating candy to Cash for Candy, people are able to help the Lake County community, the troops, and their teeth. Drop by the office closest to you and make a difference!

The participating offices are: Macy Family Dentistry in Mentor (440-255-8133), Albrecht Family Dentistry in Mentor (440-358-0495), William D. Nelson, DDS in Concord (440-357-7575), Jeffrey C. Bailey, DDS (440-256-8150), Concord Orthodontics in Concord (440-350-7400) and Willoughby (440-946-4247), Center for Dental Health in Willowick (440-944-0881), Murray J. Berkowitz, DDS in Willoughby (440-946-6373), Dental Specialists of Lake County in Mentor (440-266-1740), and Smile Brighter Willoughby Hills (440-975-8444).

Volunteers needed for United Way's 5K run and 1 Mile Walk

United Way of Lake County is looking for volunteers to help them with Sunday's 5K run and 1 Mile Walk at Chagrin River Park in Willoughby.

Volunteers are needed for registration, timing, handing out water and standing on the trail to help direct people through the course (along with some other miscellaneous tasks).

If anyone is interested in volunteering, please contact Nick Carrabine at 440.639.1131 or NCarrabine@UWLC.org by Thursday, October 18. Volunteers will need to report at 7 a.m. until about 11 a.m.

The race will take place at the beautiful Chagrin River Park in Willoughby on Sunday, October 21. Pre-registration cost for the 5K is $20 (including a shirt) and the 1 mile walk is $15 (including a shirt). Day of race registration starts at 8 a.m. and is $25 for the 5K and $20 for the 1 Mile walk (shirts included while supplies last.)

Each participant receives a two-week trial membership to Mentor Fitworks and a two-week trial membership to Mentor Heisley Racquet and Fitness Club as well as being entered into a raffle with some great prizes. Proceeds for the event go to United Way-funded programs and participants are also encouraged to bring a donation of gloves or mittens to help those without them for this upcoming winter.

The 5K will start at 9 a.m. and the 1 mile walk at 9:15 a.m. For more information on participating or sponsoring, please contact Makella Slavick at 440.639.4583 or at MSlavick@uwlc.org.

Purchase your Super Raffle tickets now!

 Do you dream of going on a cruise or taking vacations to Florida, South Carolina or Chicago?

How about driving a 2013 Ford Focus, flying across the country or training with a personal trainer at the gym for one year?

Now is your chance to do all of the above as United Way of Lake County's Super Raffle tickets are now on sale!

This year's Super Raffle consists of 59 prizes, which were generously donated from area businesses.

In 2011, Super Raffle raised more than $55,000.

Tickets for Super Raffle are $5 each or six for $25. Tickets can be purchased online at www.uwlc.org, by phone at 440.352.3166 or in person at United Way of Lake County's office, 9285 Progress Parkway, Mentor, OH 44060.

Money raised during Super Raffle benefits 74 partner programs that United Way of Lake County funds. These programs focus on senior citizens, health & human Services, children & families and basic needs.

A live drawing will take place on Friday, March 15, 2013 at 5:30 p.m. the Great Lakes Mall in Mentor. If present at the live drawing, winners can pick from available prizes. A separate drawing for the Ford Focus will be held at United Way of Lake County's Celebrity Server event, which is Thursday, March 14, 2013 at LaMalfa.

Gift Basket Raffle


Purchase Tickets for United Way of Lake County's Gift Basket Raffle

United Way is doing a gift basket raffle! Drawing is going to be on November 20,
and the winner does not need to be present. Tickets are 1 ticket for $1 and 6 tickets
for $5. If interested in purchasing tickets, please contact Makella Slavick at
MSlavick@uwlc.org or 440-639-4583. If ordering via email, please specify the
basket(s) you would like for your tickets. The proceeds go towards the programs
that United Way of Lake County helps to fund.
There are 14 total baskets; continue reading for a decription of each.
 
1. Agency Basket #1
                          
 
 
Agency Basket #1 includes a polartec blanket, painting, handmade plate and candle, three knit potholders
and handmade cards from the Fairport Harbor Senior Center, a painting, wooden necklace, leaf pin and
santa ornament from Mentor Senior Center, an 'Over the Hill' doll from the Willowick Senior Center,
a pen, tape measure, and chip clip from Lake Geauga Recovery Centers, watermelon lip balm from
the Lake County Free Clinic, a keychain from Western Reserve Community Development, the client
mission statement from New Directions for Living, and silverware wind chime, votive candle and

Agency Basket #2 includes a framed starfish poem from Lake County Church Network, two tickets

Lake County Free Clinic, a letter opener and keyboard cleaning tool from the Salvation Army,
two wood frames, scratch-off lottery tickets and a pen from Senior Independence/Faith in Action,
and a hyacinth potpourri door hanger from the Madison Senior Center.

Agency Basket #4 includes a crocheted afghan, four cross-stitch items and a tote bag from  
Perry Senior Center, a flower arrangement from Wickliffe Senior Center, a golf shoe bag,
accessory bag, and travel coffee mug from Big Brothers Big Sisters, a placemat made by art
therapy client and related article from Hospice of the Western Reserve, a client story DVD
from the Kidney Foundation, a letter opener and keyboard cleaning tool from the Salvation  
Army, homemade honey from the Kirtland Senior Center, and a framed photo from Camp
Sue Osborn.
 
 
 5. Agency Basket #5
 

                            
Agency Basket #5 - Council on Aging provided an igloo cooler, magnets, grippers, water bottle,
note pad and pen. YMCA donated a T-shirt, sandals, swim goggles, swim cap and tote bag.
Lifeline provided a coolie. Child Care on the Square provided crafts made by children and
a basket. American Red Cross provided a personal protection pack. A brochure from Crossroads,
a travel cofffe mug from Project Hope, an excercise DVD from Arthritis Foundation, a pen
from Western Reserve Counseling and a book of meditations, a tote bag and a notebook from
Lake Geauga Recovery Centers are also included.
 
 
6. Tailgating Season Basket
                         
The Tailgating Season Basket includes a 6-pack of Mike's Hard Lemonade, a 6-pack of

Leinenkugel's Sunset Wheat, a 6-pack of Edmund Fitzgerald (Great Lakes Brewing Co.), a
6-pack of Heineken Light, a 6-pack of Dos Equis, a 6-pack of Mooshead Lager, a 35 oz. jar  
of Planters Cocktail Peanuts, one bag of Kings Delicious Roasted Gold Trail Mix, and one

The Taste of Italy Basket includes one Bottle of Bella Sera Pinot Noir, one book - 'Pizza, Bread,
and Savory Tarts,' $10 to Scotti's Italian Eatery, $10 to Mario Fazio's Restaurant, three free

10. Bundle of Joy Baby Basket
                               
The Bundle of Joy Baby Basket includes two Build-A-Bears, a plush baby blanket, diapers,
children's books, baby-wipes, baby-wash, a bib, pacifiers and a bottle.
 
11. Inner Bliss Zen Basket
                              
The Inner Bliss Zen Basket includes Terra Verde handmade organiz body products - lavender
mint solid lotion, lavender eucalyptus body soap, and lavender lemongrass lip balm made
from local ingredients, a lavender gel candle, an in-home yoga DVD, a ceramic tea cup and
herbal teasan with morrocan mint tea, and lavender socks.
 
12. Sports, Food & Shopping Basket
 

                             
The Sports, Food & Shopping Basket includes two tickets to a Cavs game, two tickets to a  
Monsters game, two tickets to a Lake Erie Storm game, $50 to Legacy Village, $25 to Skye
Fine Dining and $15 to Giant Eagle.

 With the Gone Fishing Package, you and three of your friends will be treated to a day on

The Best of Baking Basket includes the book, 'Crazy About Cookies' by Kristina Castella,
the book 'Fabulous Cookies' by Hilaire Walden, a gift certificate for one of Miss Betsy Crocker  
(UWLC staff member)'s homemade pumpkin rolls, a jar of cookie mix by Miss Betsy Crocker,
a baking tin, two box cake mixes and a  holiday plate.

The Cuisine Basket includes a selection of Giant Eagle's Market District cuisine - a bottle
of Sonoma County Chardonnay, gouda cheese, petite toasts, italian pepperoni, whole wheat
penne pasta, herbed olive oil, diced tomatoes and pumpkin pasta sauce.
