Salvation Army needs volunteers for manning Red Kettle's during holiday season

Dear Friend,

Since 1897 The Salvation Army has been a tradition during the Christmas Season; bringing out their Red Kettles accompanied by ringing bells to various locations throughout our community and the country.  The Red Kettle Campaign is our primary means of financing a multitude of programs that benefit the less fortunate in Painesville and the Lake County area such as:

• Feed up to 120 people each day  • Provide the homeless a place to shower and keep warm
• Distribute Christmas gifts to over 1500 children  • Tutoring for 30 children per day
• Weekly program for up to 60 teens  • Back to School back-pack program for 2,000+ children

We know there are many individuals and businesses who would like to contribute financially to our worthy cause, but due to the economy, they understandably are not in a position to do so.  However, there is another, very simple way you can have a positive effect on increasing donations to help us continue ‘doing the most good’.

Therefore, we are seeking families, civic organizations, church and school groups or businesses to man a kettle location for 1 day.  Kettles are open from 10-8 from Nov 15 – Dec 24.  If you split that time frame in to 2 hour shifts, it means you only need 5 people to cover ringing the bell for 1 day! Your donation of time can mean increasing donations at a kettle from $500-$700 to approximately $1500.00 in 1 day!  Giving your time for 2 hours/1 day is equivalent to writing us a check for $1500 dollars; monies which will stay and be used right here to benefit those in our own neighborhoods.

There are 22 kettle locations to choose from; one located conveniently near you.  Please call the Painesville Citadel today at 440-354-3774 and ask for Jon or Billie who can provide further details, schedule you/your group and answer any questions you may have.

Thank you for your consideration.  Your generosity is much appreciated.  God Bless,

Major Robert Bender, Salvation Army Painesville Division and the 2013 Red Kettle Campaign Chairs
Maria Zampini, UpShoot LLC and Tricia Nelligan Ambrose, The News-Herald
