United Way of Lake County will kick off its 2012 Feed Lake County campaign Friday with a “Canstruction” competition just hours before the nonprofit organization’s live Super Raffle drawing. Both events will take place at the Great Lakes Mall in Mentor.
To kick-off this year’s Feed Lake County campaign, employees from Avery Dennison, Marous Brothers Construction and Winter Equipment will build spring-themed constructions out of canned foods donated during the companies’ Feed Lake County campaigns.
The companies will begin building their “Can-structions” at noon near Dillard’s women’s store. Winners will be announced live on WELW at 4:30 p.m. Judges will be in attendance to judge the companies “Canstructions” based on quantity, number of items, weight and overall appearance.
Feed Lake County is United Way of Lake County’s annual food drive where businesses, organizations and individuals collect food and money to help feed more than 6,000 people who use 52 food pantries across the county. Anyone who would like to conduct a food drive should contact Rich Thiedemann by phone at 440.639.1153 or through e-mail at rthiedemann@uwlc.org.
The “Canstruction” competition will lead into United Way of Lake County’s live Super Raffle drawing at 5:30 p.m. in front of Macy’s. Those who purchased Super Raffle tickets over the past six months will have the opportunity to attend the drawing and pick from available prizes if their names are called. Winners do not need to be present to win.
Super Raffle boasts 59 prizes, all donated to United Way of Lake County including: a 2012 Mazda 6i Sport (or a $5,000 cash back option), a 5-day Bahamas cruise, vacations to Chicago, Florida and San Francisco as well as gym memberships, a year of massages, an iPad2, sports tickets, gift certificates, diamond earrings and many more top prizes.
As of Tuesday, United Way of Lake County has sold more than $43,000 in Super Raffle tickets. All money raised during Super Raffle benefits programs that focus on senior citizens, health and human services, children and families and basic needs.
